Forestry Programs

More than three fourths of the woodlands in Massachusetts are privately owned. The tremendous amounts of public benefit we receive from them are thanks to over 200,000 families and individual woodland owners.  In recognition of these public benefits, forestry programs have been developed to encourage landowners to conserve their woods.

The programs are meant to be thought of as “tools”.  As you consider the various programs consider which is best for the job of reaching your goals.  The programs, for the most part, can be used either separately or together, again whatever helps you reach your goals.

It is important to do your homework to fully understand the benefits of the program and your obligations under it.  You may also want to consider talking to a neighbor or a friend who has had experience with the program.
