MFLA focuses on positive, constructive ways of improving and ensuring the health, care, and use of the trees, forests and associated resources of the state for generations to come. Membership is open to professional foresters with formal forestry education and experience in the practice of forestry in Massachusetts . This site contains information for members, but also a variety of pages and links that will be of interest to landowners, other professionals, and the general public. Society of American Foresters The Society of American Foresters (SAF) is the national scientific and educational organization representing the forestry profession in the United States . Founded in 1900 by Gifford Pinchot, it is the largest professional society for foresters in the world. The mission of the Society of American Foresters is to advance the science, education, technology, and practice of forestry; to enhance the competency of its members; to establish professional excellence; and, to use the knowledge, skills, and conservation ethic of the profession to ensure the continued health and use of forest ecosystems and the present and future availability of forest resources to benefit society. The Forest Guild The Forest Guild promotes ecologically, economically, and socially responsible forestry as a means of sustaining the integrity of forest ecosystems and the human communities dependent upon them. The Guild provides training, policy analysis, and research to foster excellence in stewardship, to support practicing foresters and allied professionals, and to engage a broader community in the challenges of forest conservation and management.
