First quarter 2006 southern New England stumpage price report comments submitted by respondents:

I am out of the business now!

The work is getting harder to do as I approach 50.

Prices seem to be softening; black and yellow birch falling; all spruce still very good; no movement in firewood stumpage, contractors still offering $0 to cover their fuel increase; sugar maple and black cherry remain strong.

Finally came out of the mud! Fuel is ridiculous; firewood sales strong. Too bad we couldn’t say the same about the oak market!

Oak $$ sluggish; birch logs better than usual
