Southern New England Stumpage Price Report.

3rd quarter, 2008 comments.

Ø     No wood available

Ø     Sawmills need logs badly because of wet summer yet they refuse to pay more for the hardwoods.

Ø     Due to the market volatility, held off on putting out 4 ready-to-go sales until the current “quarter”. It’s easier to sell “F” again! Lousy prices still for lower grade “T” though, we can’t have it all at this time, oh well.

Ø     Lumber prices continue to decline, especially cherry, oak, s. maple. Hard maple upper grades doing well.

Ø     All wood is at a low time low. Pine 40-50 per thousand. Oak is questionable. Firewood is up to $7.50 to $15.00 per cord. I trade excavation work for the wood.

Ø     Haven’t purchased any wood in over a year

Ø     Very slow

Ø     Cutting some firewood as part of a tsi project. No merchantable logs involved.
